BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s deputies, in conjunction with the Florida Sheriff’s Task Force and all member agencies of the Florida Sheriff’s Association, participated in “Operation Dry Spring” in March on the Space Coast.

Officer Maria Fernez of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Department Office said the purpose of the operation was to focus on issues of importance relating to the sale and possession of alcohol, tobacco and drugs (specifically synthetic drugs) to young adults and teenagers.

Fernez said the operation was designed to address this concerning issue during the spring break schedule throughout the state.

The operation was conducted between March 25 and March 29.

Fernez said the operation checked 155 businesses for violations or criminal activities.

Of the businesses checked in the operation, 31 arrests were made for violation of Florida State Statute 562.11, which is selling, giving, or serving alcoholic beverages to person under age 21.

According to Fernez, a total of 47 arrests were made, two arrest warrants were issued and one search warrant was served.

“The Sheriff’s Office also seized quantities of controlled substances to include cocaine, marijuana, hydrocodone and drug paraphernalia,” Fernez said.
