Thanks to a grant from Kaboom! – Dr. Pepper/Snapple Group and other great sponsors, the city of Cocoa, along with local volunteers will be at Anderson Park to help rebuild the playground equipment at the park that was destroyed by fire in 2011.

The event will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the park at 501 N. Fiske Blvd. in  Cocoa as local volunteers will rebuild the playground equipment and spruce up the surrounding park.

Members of the Cocoa City Council will be on hand to help throughout the morning and then officially open the park before lunch is served to all the volunteers.

Volunteer responsibilities will include painting the gazebo, benches and swing set, installing timbers around the new playground set, spreading the new rubber mulch under the playground equipment and swing set and planting new landscaping throughout the park.

Not only will the park be getting new playground equipment, but other areas of the park will be upgraded as well including the basketball courts, benches and brand-new garbage cans.

All of these new amenities were possible thanks to the generous donations made by sponsor and now the surrounding community will once again have an area for kids and families to come outside and play.
