BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – There are no new clues in the robbery attempt at the Petco in West Melbourne last Saturday, and law enforcement authorities need your help in identifying the perpetrator who fired into a crowd of fleeing employees.

According to West Melbourne Police Department spokesman Lt. Richard Cordeau, the suspect is described as a black male, late teens to early 20s, 6’ tall, thin build, wearing a red and black striped short-sleeve shirt, tan shorts and black tennis shoes. HARROWING ESCAPE

Employees at the local pet supply retailer narrowly escaped injuries after the suspect fired a gun at them during the robbery attempt, according to Lt. Richard Cordeau. The incident occurred at the Petco, 205 Palm Bay Road on June 15 just before 7 p.m. The suspect entered the store and engaged the manager in conversation about potential employment, according to Lt. Cordeau.

The suspect then displayed a handgun from his pocket and demanded, “take me to the money.”

As the suspect walked backwards, he tripped and fell, which allowed the manager and other employees to flee towards the front of the store. The suspect fired two rounds at the fleeing employees as he ran out of the store. Nobody was injured and the suspect did not get away with anything.
