BREVARD COUNTY • WEST MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff’s Agents arrested City of West Melbourne Recreation Supervisor Daniel Hatcher Friday on multiple child pornography charges.

“Earlier this morning, the City suspended the employee without pay, ordered the employee to stay off of City property, and shut off the employee’s access to City facilities until the City completes its own administrative investigation,” said West Melbourne City Manager Scott Morgan.

“Until yesterday evening, when Brevard County Sheriff’s Office personnel requested City property that might assist in the Sheriff’s investigation, the City was unaware of any allegations of this nature.”

Morgan said the City of West Melbourne is cooperating fully and completely with the Sheriff’s Office to provide any and all information that might be of use in their continuing criminal investigation.

According to West Melbourne city records, Hatcher was hired on August 13, 2018, to work the operations of the City’s newly constructed skate park.

“Prior to his hiring, the City performed its standard background investigation, which included submission of the employee’s fingerprints to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement for a state criminal history record check and to the Federal Bureau of Investigation for a national criminal history record check,” said Morgan.

The background screening did not turn up any indication of the kind of behavior that is alleged in his arrest warrant, according to Morgan.

“The seriousness of the charges cannot be overstated,” said Morgan. “Regardless of the results of the criminal complaint, the City is pursuing our own administrative investigation regarding the arrestee’s future employment.”

The City’s employment background check and Hatcher’s complete personnel file is immediately available for public inspection HERE.

Anyone who may have information about the criminal investigation is asked to please call Agent Aja Stake of the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office at 321-633-8419.
