Homeowner Opens Fire On Home Invaders

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – An armed home invasion robbery was thwarted last night at 2700 Pepper Avenue by a homeowner who opened fire on the suspects, according to the Melbourne Police Department.

According to authorities, Melbourne Police officers received a call at 11:41 p.m. “of possibly four black males, some with firearms,” forcefully entering the residence on Pepper Avenue.
Police responded on scene in less than two minutes of receiving the call and learned that the homeowner fired his handgun at the suspects, and one of them may have been hit. Firearms were recovered at the scene by police.
SUSPECT NAILED AT HOLMES REGIONAL MEDICAL CENTER
Officers began a search of the area for the suspects, and an officer was dispatched to stake out Holmes Regional Medical Center. Suspect Bobby Culler, 25, was dropped off at the hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound to the arm, and two other suspects who dropped off Culler were stopped in their vehicle as they drove away from the hospital.

One of the men in the vehicle, Leonard Valentine, 18, of Melbourne was arrested and charged with armed burglary and violation of probation. The driver of the vehicle was released and Culler was arrested for having an active warrant.
The Melbourne Police Department is currently investigating this incident and additional charges are pending.
