BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Basketball players Torrance Rowe and Rachelle (Rocky) Aupont are Eastern Florida State College’s Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Week respectively for the week ending Jan. 19.
Rowe, a sophomore guard from Atlanta, GA and Central Park Christian, was Eastern Florida’s leading scorer with 23 points against Florida College System Activities Association Southern Conference rival Palm Beach State and the second-leading scorer with 16 points against conference foe Miami Dade College. Eastern Florida won both games to improve to 17-4 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
Rowe also is the team’s leading scorer averaging 14.2 points per game.
MEN ARE 3-0 IN CONFERENCE PLAY
“Torrance was absolutely outstanding for us last week, with 39 points in his two games, and outstanding leadership,” Eastern Florida head coach Jeremy Shulman said.
“Torrance has gotten better and better as the year has gone on, and is truly an outstanding point guard.”
Aupont, a freshman from Orlando, FL and Edgewater High, had a standout game in Eastern Florida’s loss to Southern Conference opponent Indian River State College, scoring 17 points and collecting 16 rebounds.
Aupont is Eastern Florida’s second-leading scorer averaging 11.5 points per game and its leading rebounder at 8.6 per game.
“Rocky played very well for us last Saturday, and she is well deserving of this honor,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jim Grimes.
“She had a long lay-off, and struggled a bit in her first game back, but really returned to form last week. Her scoring and rebounding will be even more important as we go through the heart of our conference season, and we are asking a lot of her, but I know she is up to the task.”
