Cato Takes Freshman of the Week Honors Again

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Florida Tech redshirt freshman quarterback Mark Cato has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week following his impressive game in the Panthers’ 44-9 Homecoming win over Mississippi College, it was announced on Monday.

Cato has now garnered a total of six freshman of the week honors, giving Florida Tech seven of the eight laurels bestowed in the award’s inaugural season.

Panther receiver Terrance Bynum earned the award last week, while Shorter’s Aaron Bryant received the honor for Week Five.

The Alachua, Florida native tossed a school-record five touchdown passes to four different receivers in leading the Panthers to the Homecoming victory.

In total, Cato completed 29 of 39 passes for 309 yards. The former Gainesville High School star was also Florida Tech’s fourth leading rusher, gaining 32 yards on six carries.

North Alabama quarterback Luke Wingo earned offensive player of the week honors, while West Georgia defensive end Darrius Caldwell received the defensive award. Additionally, Valdosta State kicker Anthony Pistelli was awarded special teams player of the week laurels.
