POLICE: Cab Driver Shoots, Kills Robbery Suspect Armed With Knife

SEBASTIAN, FLORIDA – A cab driver in Sebastian shot and killed an apparent robber Saturday at about 12:45 a.m.
According to the Sebastian Police Department, officers responded to a report of a robbery early Saturday by the cab driver in the area of Periwinkle and Concha Drive.
Initial reports indicated that a 36-year old man and his 34-year old male family associate called the cab then allegedly attempted to rob the driver at knifepoint.
According to police, both suspects where known by the 51-year old male cab driver as a result of frequent previous calls for transportation.
The cab driver, in an effort to protect and defend himself, was able to retrieve his firearm and shot the subject.
The cab driver told police that the subject and his accomplice fled the area after he discharged his firearm.
Officers at the scene followed a blood trail that lead to a residence where the cab driver identified a suspect that held him at knife point. Police also discovered the second suspect at the residence.
Officers attempted medical assistance as well as requested emergency medical services for further treatment.
According to police, the subject succumbed to his injuries and died in route to the hospital. There wer no report of the cab driver being injured.
The suspect’s names are not being released pending further investigation and notification of next of kin.
This is an ongoing investigation with additional details and charges, if any, upon investigators and state attorney’s approval.
