Eastern Florida State Point Guard Nene Johnson Participates In All-Star Weekend

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — Eastern Florida rising sophomore Nene Johnson participated at the recent NJCAA Women’s Basketball Coaches Association 2015 NJCAA All-Star Weekend at Northwest Florida State College in Niceville.

The 5-foot, 8-inch Johnson, Eastern Florida’s point guard and All-FCSAA Southern Conference first team selection for the 2014-2015 season, joined 39 other players and a number of NCAA coaches from around the country.

Players participated in position workouts and team practices; attended the NJCAA Hall of Fame Banquet and competed in games.

Johnson, from Stuart, Florida and Martin County High, was Eastern Florida’s third leading scorer averaging 11.1 points per game as the Titans went 23-8 and won the Southern Conference with a 13-2 record.

“It was a great opportunity for Nene to participate in the NJCAA All-Star weekend, and I think she took advantage of it,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jim Grimes.

“She was able to measure herself against the best players in the country, and played very well. I firmly believe this is just the beginning for Nene. She has such great potential and her future is very bright.”

She recorded a team-high 3.6 assists per game and was second in steals at 1.4. Playing in all 30 games, she shot 45.7 percent from the floor, second best on the team.
