BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech volleyball was flying high on Wednesday night in its preseason scrimmage against the Eastern Florida State College Titans.

The Panthers controlled play throughout the match en route to a 5-0 sweep of the crosstown Titans. The final set scores were 25-11, 25-16, 25-18, 25-15 and 15-6.

“For the first night together, I think we played and gelled well together as a team,” said head coach Amy O’Brien.

“For only being together for six days the girls played well. That’s why when we go recruiting we try to bring in girls that have that type of chemistry with the players on the team.”

Senior Kim Juriga paced the Panthers with a match-high 11 kills to go along with her three assisted blocks. Fellow senior Marilyn Dick finished with 10 kills and a match-high 11 digs and sophomore Samantha Reeves also recorded 10 kills.

Senior Ashtin Truesdale and freshman Kiersten Rosa propelled the offensive output with their 17 assists apiece.

“Overall, I think we did a lot of great things tonight,” stated O’Brien.

“The offense was great at the front nets, they were super scrappy. We have a lot to work on before we start conference play, but overall I’m happy.”

Defensively, the Panthers forced EFSC into 31 errors and blocked a total of 14 attempts by the Titans during the contest.

“In the Sunshine State Conference, we have to have a huge front line,” O’Brien continued.

The Panthers are looking to continue this strong momentum as they head through the preseason schedule and into the regular season.
