BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – The Titans, then known as Brevard Community College, earned the NJCAA’s No. 1 women’s national ranking on Sept. 5, 2012, suffered a defeat and re-captured the top spot on Oct. 17 that year.

The Titans carried the No. 1 ranking into the NJCAA Women’s Division I National Championship where they finished as runner-up.

This season the NSCAA ranks the Titans (3-0) ahead of Darton College of Albany, Georgia, which is 2-0.

Pre-season No. 1 and defending national champion Monroe College of New York (0-1), which lost its opening game, is ranked third.

Eastern Florida and Darton play Sept. 18 in Albany.

The Titans are 3-0 after home field victories against Andrew College, 3-0; Southwestern Illinois, 6-1; and Lewis & Clark, 4-3.

For the third time in its six seasons as a program the Eastern Florida State College women’s soccer team is ranked No. 1 nationally.

Also, the NSCAA ranked Eastern Florida’s men No. 2 nationally, the highest ranking ever for the third-year program.

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) recognized the Titans women and men in its latest poll released today.

The latest NJCAA Division I poll will be released later this week.

“We appreciate the recognition,” said Eastern Florida head coach Jeff Carr.

“Being No. 1 in the country is an honor and we hope the players both appreciate it and play up to the level expected of the top ranking.

“That being said our ultimate goal remains to be No. 1 at the conclusion of the national tournament on Nov. 21.”

The women’s championship tournament will be played at the Titan Soccer Complex on the Melbourne Campus for the third consecutive season. Eastern Florida is tournament host through 2016.

Eastern Florida’s men are 2-0-1 and are scheduled to face Keiser University’s junior varsity in West Palm Beach on Wednesday.

The men defeated Lewis & Clark 3-1 in their home debut on Sunday to remain unbeaten at the Titan Soccer Complex.

Last year’s national men’s runner-up Monroe College (2-0-1), which played Eastern Florida to a double overtime draw in the Titans second game this season, is No. 1 and Pima Community College (4-0-1) is No. 3.

“We naturally are honored to be ranked second,” said Eastern Florida men’s head coach Oliver Twelvetrees.

“The boys are excited but also realize this is just the first step toward the goal that we and the women share: winning the national championship.

“The ranking also means we will have a big target on our backs when we take to the pitch but it also gives us extra incentive to prove we are worthy.”

Women’s soccer is the second Eastern Florida team to achieve a No. 1 national ranking this fall. Men’s golf, which finished as national runner-up last spring, received the top ranking in the Bushnell Golfweek Preseason NJCAA Division I Coaches Poll on Aug. 28.
