House bill 7101

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – House Speaker Steve Crisafulli (R- Merritt Island) issued the following statement on HB 7101 regarding sentencing guidelines for capital felonies.
“With the passage of HB 7101, we have reformed our capital sentencing procedures to comply with the Supreme Court of the United States’ recent ruling.
Changing the requirement for a jury’s sentencing verdict to be agreed upon by at least ten of the twelve jurors has moved us to a position where we have gone beyond what was asked of us by the Supreme Court.
These reforms will allow us to keep the death penalty in our toolbox to punish our most violent criminals.
I thank Chairs McBurney and Trujillo and Representative Spano for their swift action in this matter and look forward to working with our Senate partners to pass this good bill into law.”
