Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey Receives NRA Distinguished Defender of Freedom Award

TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey was awarded one of the National Rifle Association’s highest honors on Monday in recognition of his tireless efforts to defend liberty and protect the interests of law-abiding gun owners.
Sheriff Ivey was the only law enforcement officer to receive the Defender of Freedom Award in 2015.
“There is never any question where Sheriff Ivey stands. He stands for the people,” said Marion P. Hammer, former NRA president.
“He is clearly dedicated to protecting and upholding the Constitution, the Second Amendment and the freedoms safeguarded by our Founding Fathers.”
The Defender of Freedom Award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves in preserving and protecting the rights guaranteed by the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution and in the service of freedom.Ivey received his award for his service and unwavering support, protection and defense of the fundamental right to keep and bear arms.
“Sheriff Ivey is part of the fabric of freedom,” Hammer said.
“Law-abiding gun owners should know that Sheriff Ivey believes in the Second Amendment and believes in them.
The award was presented in Tallahassee on April 25.
Established in 1871, the National Rifle Association is America’s oldest civil rights and sportsmen’s group.
More than five million members strong, NRA continues to uphold the Second Amendment and advocates enforcement of existing laws against violent offenders to reduce crime.
The Association remains the nation’s leader in firearm education and training for law-abiding gun owners, law enforcement and the armed services.
