BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Over 30 schools district-wide celebrated the second statewide observance of ‘Dads Take Your Child to School Day’ on September 28.

A new initiative proposed by the Florida Department of Education, Dads Take Your Child to School Day encouraged all elementary schools to invite fathers, stepfathers, grandfathers, and other significant male role models to take their children to school.

More than 30 years of research has supported the belief that a positive relationship exists between increased family engagement and student academic success.

The intent of the observance was to highlight the significant difference fathers can make by taking a more active role in their children’s educational experiences.

Every participating school welcomed their school community fathers and male role models in a unique way. At Enterprise Elementary in Cocoa, their day was superhero themed asking dads and kids to dress in capes and costumes to celebrate.
