'Landmark and a True Game Changer'

TOP: Pre-PRP Treatment. ABOVE: Post-PRP Treatment. UNTIL RECENTLY, hair restoration treatments have been spotty in their success. Some don’t work very well, and others require painful, long-term procedures. Things are about to change, however, now that BioCellular Therapies, a Melbourne practice that provides cutting-edge stem cell research and treatment to promote the growth of new, healthy tissue through the use of living cells, has added hair restoration to its menu of services.

Dr. Mark Pinsky: ‘Hair Restoration Technique We Use Is Landmark and a True Game Changer’

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – For the follicle-challenged, the need for hair is very real and aggravated by Madison Avenue’s fondness for spokespeople with gorgeous hair.

It is only natural to want to look good and a constant bombardment of images of individuals with amazing-looking hair makes hair loss even more devastating for both men and women.

The practice initially focused on providing successful non-invasive treatment for patients suffering from sports injuries, osteoarthritis or degenerative disc disease, but has since expanded its range to encompass anti-aging modalities. With hair restoration, BioCellular Therapies stands out from the rest.

“The hair restoration technique we use is landmark and a true game changer,” said Dr. Mark Pinsky, who is heading the hair restoration efforts at BioCellular Therapies.

For optimum success, Pinsky is enlisting the aid of the most important ally: the patient.

“We employ the use of platelet rich plasma, or PRP, taken directly from the patient’s own blood,” he explained.

No Downtime, No Discomfort

Unlike other practices delving into the use of PRP, BioCellular Therapies has incorporated the use the VIVACE, a special equipment that creates canalization directly into the scalp.

The VIVACE is the newest generation of fractional microneedle with radio frequency. FDA-cleared for safety, VIVACE offers non-surgical treatment with no downtime or discomfort.

“This allows us to direct the PRP topically unto the scalp,” said Pinsky.“After numbing the patient further, we then inject PRP directly into the scalp to stimulate follicular growth.”

How does the use of platelet rich plasma aid in hair regrowth?

“PRP contains seven growth factors that accomplish three different things,” said Pinsky.

“The PRP recruits new hair to grow, takes the existing hair and strengthens it and, perhaps most importantly, it recruits surrounding stem cells around the follicle to get thicker, which reverses the process of miniaturization, which causes loss of the hair follicle.

Hair loss is an issue that affects both men and women. The hair restoration services at BioCellular Therapies are available for both sexes, although treatment differs.

“Women typically only need one treatment, whereas men need multiple treatments to fight against their body’s own testosterone, which is a cause of male hair loss,” said Jim Eaker, president of BioCellular Therapies.

Activate Hair Follicles

The ideal candidate is any individual coping with a receding hair line or thinning of the scalp.

“The PRP will activate the hair follicles to grow more robust and fill out scalp thinning,” added Eaker. “Men who are balding but still have light hair follicles are also good candidates.”

The procedure, which is extremely patient-friendly, takes only about 20 minutes after the patient’s own blood have been spun down by a centrifuge to isolate platelet rich plasma.

While results are not immediate, they are not far off into the future.

“All regenerative medicine takes a little time to activate the cellular healing,” said Eaker.

A typical treatment schedule for me consists of three treatments spaced eight weeks apart. Additional maintenance treatments are needed on an annual basis in order to best combat testosterone’s inclination to cause hair loss.

“I continue to practice medicine in the same patient-centered concierge model, but I have chosen to work with

BioCellular Therapies to incorporate this exciting form of medicine into my practice,” said Pinsky.

“The use of biologics and the whole concept of anti-aging fits perfectly into the wellness model I have practiced for the last 20 years.”

Power of Self-Restoration

The unique equipment we call our bodies has amazing powers of self-restoration, if only given a chance. BioCellular Therapies’ treatment model taps into the bodies’ own ability to heal itself.

“Hair restoration directly coincides with the philosophy of Biocellular Therapies,” said Pinsky.
“We are all about using the anti-aging cells from either PRP, bone marrow aspirate or amniotic membrane to achieve our desired result of an improved quality of life.”
