COCOA POLICE: Family Rescues 18-Month-Old Boy From Near Drowning In Backyard Pond

Grandfather discovered victim, family members performed CPR until rescuers arrived

An 18-month-old boy is recovering in the hospital after nearly drowning in a backyard pond. At 9:48 a.m. Saturday morning, Cocoa police patrol officers and fire rescue personnel responded to the 1000 block of Cox Road for a report of a child who fell into a backyard pond.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – An 18-month-old boy is recovering in the hospital after nearly drowning in a backyard pond.

At 9:48 a.m. Saturday morning, Cocoa police patrol officers and fire rescue personnel responded to the 1000 block of Cox Road for a report of a child who fell into a backyard pond.

Witnesses say the grandfather found the child and immediately pulled him out of the water. Family members performed CPR until rescuers arrived.

“The child was breathing and crying, he was flown to the children’s hospital in Orlando as a precaution,” said Cocoa Police PIO Yvonne Martinez. “He is expected to make a full recovery.”
