Here are some of the fun activities you can take part in at Puerto Vallarta in Mexico.

Adventurous Activities Near Puerto Vallarta

There are many adventure activities in and around Puerto Vallarta. One of them is a 1,000 ft. zip-line flying from a suspended canopy to another suspended canopy within an exotic tropical setting at least 200 feet above the ground. There’s fast rappelling down the side of rockfaces and taking a UTV 4×4 on the way to different tours. Take a tour for a day or choose multiple ones and negotiate a discount.

Swimming with dolphins is another trip that will appeal to people who enjoy being active in the water. The family of Pacific Bottlenose dolphins are present in the area. It’s possible to see them playing in the water at certain times of the day and sometimes, if you’re lucky, one of them will give you a ride if you hold onto their fin. The Dolphin Signature Swim can also be combined with a trip to Majahuitas Beach.

There are also plenty of water-based adventures available if you want to try something new. Inland, there are also gentler nature walks and trekking for the more experienced.

Traditional Setting

Delve a little deeper into the surrounding area and you’ll discover that this former mining town has many hidden gems. As it developed from a small town to a city over the last two centuries, art and cultural exploration expanded. There’s a certain artistic quality to the colorfully adorned buildings in the area. For anyone who likes to visit art galleries that show the work of local artists, there are many to choose from while spending the afternoon wandering around. Who knows… you might get tempted to buy a painting to take home.

There are also several cultural festivals showing off the best of what’s produced locally and regionally. You could be lucky enough to visit when a festival is running, which is very exciting.

Biodiversity

The level of biodiversity present in Puerto Vallarta often surprises visitors, but it’s actually one of the most ecologically diverse places in Latin America. There are hundreds of bird species nestling in the treetops, exotic flowers that will please anyone with a green finger, and unusual wildlife, both large and small. Along with dolphins, the Pacific Ocean also has humpback whales that occasionally pop up for a visit and to make their presence known.

Nightlife

The nightlife certainly picks up when the sun goes down! There are many bars, clubs and restaurants to dance the night away or enjoy some local cuisine. Being right on the ocean, there is a strong seafood influence but there are restaurants of every flavor here. Vegetarians are also catered for due to the many tourists who visit annually. If you prefer to get an early start and end the night quite early too, then there are cafés sprinkled around to pick up something light instead of a heavier evening meal in a restaurant. It’s completely up to you.

While some Mexican resorts have almost become little slices of Americana, Puerta Vallarta has retained its local charm while still making it easy to stay here as a foreigner. Whilst it’s both culturally diverse and an adventurous place to visit on vacation, the city also makes for a good first visit to Mexico due to the ease of settling in quickly upon arrival.
