BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police announced Monday morning that a 55-year-old masked gunman was shot dead by a private security officer after a shootout at Blue Diamond Arcade in Cocoa located on 1549 N. Cocoa Blvd.

The suspect has been identified as Nathaniel Carter from Cocoa.

“With the video evidence and the witnesses, it’s clear that the security officer was well within the legal boundaries to shoot the suspect,” said Sgt. Doug Levine of the Criminal Investigations Division.

“We are working with the state attorney for additional review of the case. At this time the security officer is not under arrest.”

Police say Carter attempted to rob Blue Diamond Arcade around 12:40 a.m. Monday when he was approached by a private security guard who ordered Carter, “don’t do this.”

Ignoring the security officer, Carter exchanged fire against the security guard. As the security officer exchanged gunfire with the masked gunman, Carter fled the business after being hit during the exchange and collapsed 80 feet from Blue Diamond Arcade.
