WATCH: David Kilgore of Palm Bay Takes Fourth Consecutive Space Coast Marathon Title

SPACE COAST DAILY TV: For the fourth consecutive year, Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame runner David Kilgore of Palm Bay has won the Space Coast Marathon, this time with a time of 2:33:38. Kilgore was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA/ROCKLEDGE, FLORIDA – For the fourth consecutive year, Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame runner David Kilgore of Palm Bay has won the Space Coast Marathon, this time with a time of 2:33:38.

The 47th running of the Space Coast Marathon, Half Marathon and Marathon Relay was held Sunday morning, starting in Cocoa Village and finishing at the Riverfront Park amphitheater.

Steve Hedgespeth of Melbourne came in second with a time of 2:51.12 and James Stofel of Merritt Island posted a time of 2:55.21 to take third.

Other top finishers from Brevard County included Frank Silva of Cocoa, who placed eighth with a time of 3:10:32,
Michael Demko of Satellite Beach finished 19th with a time of 3:20:45 and Cocoa’s Bret Halliday placed 24 with a time of 3:22:37.

Erica Schramm of Las Vegas placed 10th in leading all female runners with a time of 3:13:43. Brevard’s top female finisher was Paulina Shenbaum of Melbourne who finished in 53rd place with a time of 3:36:52.

The Running Zone Foundation and Space Coast Runners presented the Space Coast Marathon and Half-Marathon, which is Florida’s oldest marathon.

This year, in order to add capacity to the half marathon, organizers expanded the race site to include not only Cocoa Riverfront Park but the adjoining Lee Wenner Park.

Kilgore, who had a remarkable high school career at Holy Trinity Episcopal School, is one of the top runners to ever come from the Space Coast and was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2017.

He started running during his middle school days. Early on, it was apparent that his talents were unique. As he moved to high school, he began to blossom as a runner.

While with the Tigers, he was coached by fellow Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame member, Doug Butler. Before he finished his high school career, he had accumulated four state championship titles.

Kilgore was the state champion in Cross Country, 1600 meters (twice), and had one team championship (Cross Country and Track). Kilgore was an All-American in the 5K, having once run it in a remarkable time of 14:50.
