BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Melbourne police arrested Umme Ferdousy, 38, and charged her with Aggravated Abuse on an Elderly Person, Aggravated Battery on a Person Over the Age of 65 (with a knife) and Battery on a Person Over the Age of 65-years-old.
According to a police report, Ferdousy deprived her mother and father-in-law of food and water on numerous occasions causing medical treatment for malnourishment.
“The defendant maliciously punished her mother-in-law making her beg for food and water, to which she would still deny her and state this is how you would live in Bangladesh,” said Melbourne police in a report.
“The defendant would purposely not make enough food for her in-laws so they were unable to eat.”
The victim told police investigators the defendant cut her with a knife on the right arm when she was attempting to gain access to food and the defendant prevented her from obtaining any.
Investigating officers said that they observed a laceration to the victim’s right forearm, consistent with a cut of a sharp object.
According to the police report, Ferdousy was witnessed by her husband physically grab his mother’s arm and cause bruises and scratches to the forearm and the charges are supported by recorded statements, written sworn statements and pictures of injuries to the victim.
Ferdousy was taken to the Brevard County Jail.
