WATCH REPLAY: Merritt Island Wins District 22 and Section 3 Titles, Advances to Tournament in Dunedin July 5

Florida District 22 Little League All-Star Update

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Little League baseball and softball action continued on Saturday on the Space Coast.
In baseball action at W.W. James Park in Titusville, Merritt Island 8/9/10 baseball was a big winner as they are now the District 22 and Section 3 champions and advance to the state baseball tournament in Dunedin on July 5.
In Intermediate (50/70) Baseball action, Rockledge will represent Section 3 in the tournament.

8/9/10 BASEBALL AT W.W. JAMES PARK – TITUSVILLE
• GAME ONE: San Mateo 6, Deland 5
This contest got a late start due to some inclement weather, but the visitors from San Mateo Little League finally got to take on the home team from Deland Little League.
After a single to reach base, Kyler Long started the scoring to give San Mateo a 1-0 lead in the first. Deland would battle back in the bottom of the second after back-to-back singles from Samuel Rodgers and Jackson Bowman started the ball rolling. Rodgers, Shiloh Gallimore and Cristian Baez would all come in to score and give Deland a 3-1 lead.
Deland would extend their lead to 4-1 in the third inning after William Freed singled and scored. San Mateo fought back in the top of the fourth inning. Consecutive hits from Jaydin Morrissey, Javon Johnson and Jacob Rohn provided the spark and they would all come in to score.
Logan Taylor would later walk and score to put San Mateo ahead 5-4. Deland tied the game at 5 in the bottom of the fourth after Brian Gannon scored. San Mateo would start off the fifth inning with back-to-back singles. Jaydin Morrissey would plate the final run of the game to give his team a 6-5 lead.
Journey Sutton pitched a scoreless sixth inning to preserve the victory.

• GAME TWO: Merritt Island 12, Deland 2
This game would see the visitors from Merritt Island Little League taking on the home team from Deland Little League.
Merritt Island would get the bats working early and score ten runs in the first two innings. Ty Brandes started the game with a leadoff double and would score on an RBI single from Liam Miller.
Aiden Doherty had the hot bat as he tripled twice and finished the game 2-for-2. Deland cut into the lead in the bottom of the second inning by scoring two runs after William Freed and Kayden Sanders both walked and scored.
Merritt Island would put the game out of reach in the fourth inning. Rocco Amunategui singled and scored on an RBI single from Knox Silva to make the score 12-2. Vince Barchanowicz tossed three strong innings for Merritt Island and Zane Taival pitched a scoreless fourth to preserve the win.
• GAME THREE: Merritt Island 9, San Mateo 1
Game 3 would be the championship game between the visiting San Mateo Little League and the home team of Merritt Island Little League. After a scoreless first inning, Merritt Island would come alive in the bottom of the second.
Aiden Doherty again had the hot bat, doubling and scoring on an RBI single by Landon Ellis. Grant Arnold also singled and scored to give Merritt Island a 5-0 lead. San Mateo would score their only run of the game in the third inning after Journey Sutton singled and scored on an RBI double by Kyler Long.
Merritt Island would go on to put the game out of reach after Nathaniel Watson, Zane Taival and Doherty all came around to score, making the final 9-1. Ty Brandes threw a complete game for Merritt Island giving up only four hits while striking out ten San Mateo hitters.

9/10/11 SOFTBALL AT FAY PARK – PORT ST. JOHN
GAME ONE: Palm coast 18, Hilliard 5
This game pitted the visitors from District 19, Palm Coast LL, against the home team from District 11, Hilliard LL.
Palm Coast started the scoring in the second inning when 16 batters came to the plate and 12 scored behind 4 singles and Chloe Reynolds’ double. Hilliard plated 4 runs in the bottom of the second behind four walks and added another run in the 4th after B.Fouraker reached base on a walk.
But Sudil Schell had a double and scored twice and Ashley Sampselle went 2-for-3 at the plate and scored 3 times as Palm Coast would go on to win 18-5 in 4 innings.
GAME TWO: Port St. John 6, Hillard 5
Game two in this series had Hilliard back in action against the home team from District 22, Port St. John LL. Hilliard’s Abigail Pickett singled and scored while Brooke Sparkman walked three times and scored twice.
But Port St. John’s Bre’onna Weavers singled and scored, Julia Bunnell walked and scored, and J. Cross reached base on an error and scored as the game went into the 7th inning tied at 3.
In the top of the 7th, Hilliard’s B. Kelley walked and scored, but Port’s Bre’onna Weavers singled and scored to tie it back up at 4 apiece.
Hilliard regained the lead in the top of the ninth with O. Nelson scoring. Port St. John’s K. Rymer and A. Orrikole scored in the bottom of the 9th to give Port St. John the 6-5 win.
GAME THREE: Palm Coast 22, Port St. John 3
This game was between Palm Coast and Port St. John. Port St. John’s E. Hopkins, A. Mallard, and A. Orrikole scored, but Palm Coast’s bats were steaming as S. Schell scored 4 runs while H. Barrick, H. Gaines, and A. Adams added 3 runs each in Palm Coast’s 22-3 win.
Palm Coast advances to St, Petersburg LL for the State of Florida 9/10/11 Softball Tournament which begins July 5th.
JUNIOR SOFTBALL AT FAY PARK – PORT ST. JOHN
Junior Softball tried to get started at Mims LL’s Holder Park, but an early rain flooded the fields and the games were moved to Field 2 at Fay Park in Port St. John.
GAME ONE: Palm Coast 18, Mims 0
In Game 1, Mims Little League had a double by Avery Walker, a single by Camryn Brock and walks by Chloe Nason and Aubree Hart, but were unable to plate any runs.
On the other side of the field, Palm Coast’s run machine churned with Chloe Baker going 4-for-4 (3 singles and a double) and scoring 4 runs.
Ashley Burdick reached base 4 times (2 singles, a double and hit-by-pitch) and added 3 runs, and Kiya McDermott was 2-for-3 scoring 3 runs in Palm Coast’s 18-0 win.
GAME TWO: Palm Coast 17, Mims 3
Game 2 saw Mims Little League as home again with Kalyn Rubio reaching base on a dropped third strike and scoring.
Avery Walker walked and scored, and Madison Merchant singled and scored. Palm Coast’s Anasofia Jiminez reached base 4 times and scored each time while Chloe Baker and Kayla Mohrbacher each added 3 runs in Palm Coast’s 17-3 win.
Palm Coast Little League will move on to represent Section 3 at the State of Florida Junior Softball Tournament starting July 6th at St. Cloud Little League.
OTHER DISTRICT 22 ACTION AROUND FLORIDA IN SECTION 3 GAMES
INTERMEDIATE (50/70) BASEBALL: Rockledge 11, St. Augustine 0; Rockledge 12, St. Augustine 1
ST. AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA – Rockledge Little League was in action at St. Augustine Little League. In Game 1, Rockledge was the visiting team and scored 12 runs while St. Augustine was the home team and was held to just 1 score as Rockledge won 12-1.
Rockledge Little league was again the visiting team in the second game and beat St. Augustine Little League 13-0.
Rockledge will represent Section 3 in the State of Florida Intermediate (50/70) Baseball Tournament next week.
SENIOR BASEBALL: Merritt Island 10, Volusia 6; San Mateo 11, Merritt Island 2
ST. AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA – Merritt Island Little League was home against the visiting Volusia in St. Augustine. Merritt Island’s bats were hot as they held on to win 10-6.
After watching Volusia and San Mateo battle in the second game, Merritt Island was again the home team when they met San Mateo in Game 3. San Mateo won 11-2.
