BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – A Melbourne man has been charged in connection with an alleged shooting incident in Melbourne late Monday night.

Darryl Love, 51, has been charged with one count each of aggravated battery with a firearm and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

According to an arrest report from the Melbourne Police Department, officers were called to the 3000 block of Fountainhead Circle in Melbourne late Monday night after a report that someone had been shot.

When they arrived, they were told that the alleged victim, who police say was shot once in the right forearm, told police he had been shot by an acquaintance of his.

Police said that about 15 minutes after the initial 9-1-1 call that they located the suspect about a half-mile away at the intersection of Quebec Ave. and Dijon Dr.

They add that the suspect fit the suspect description, was sweating profusely and could offer “no reasonable explanation as to why he was walking in this area,” according to the report.

A witness also told police in a sworn statement that the victim and suspect had been in a physical altercation a few minutes prior to when they heard a gunshot.

The victim was transported to Holmes Regional Medical Center.

The suspect is currently being held without bond in the Brevard County Jail.
