BREVARD COUNTY • PORT CANAVERAL, FLORIDA – Skies above Port Canaveral will be ablaze with color and light during the fifth annual 2nd of July Fireworks Before the Fireworks.

One of the Space Coast’s most popular Independence Day events will be from 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, on the lawn at Exploration Tower in Port Canaveral, 670 Dave Nisbet Drive.

The U.S. Naval Ordnance Test Unit will conduct the opening ceremony at 6 p.m. with a Presentation of the Colors and the national anthem.

The family-friendly event will feature a kids zone with a Touch-a-Truck area as well as food trucks and vendors, a beer tent and entertainment by Michael Van Ness. Fireworks will begin shortly after sunset.

Guests should bring lawn chairs and blankets.

Event parking will be $5, starting at 5 p.m. A limited number of VIP Fireworks Viewing tickets for $25 each are available at the Exploration Tower website.

Each ticket is good for an unobstructed view of fireworks and includes parking, light snacks, beverages, a cash bar, exclusive admission into the Tower starting at 5 p.m., and access to a street party surrounding the Tower.

Free parking for VIP ticket holders will be in the Tower lot. If that lot is full, guests can present their VIP ticket voucher to parking staff for free parking elsewhere.

A comprehensive special event parking and traffic flow plan was jointly developed by Brevard County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO), Canaveral Fire Rescue and Canaveral Port Authority Public Safety to improve arrival at the Port before the event and exiting the Port once the fireworks display concludes.

The traffic flow plan will have road closures beginning at 10 a.m. and one-way directional exiting of Port roads beginning at 9 p.m.

Guests planning to attend the event should review the new parking and traffic flow plan and make their travel and parking plans accordingly.

The new parking and traffic event plan include electronic and fixed signs located on State Roads 528 and A1A, and on roadways and intersections at the Port to direct motorists arriving for the festivities.

Deputies, parking attendants and staff will be located at key traffic intersections around the Port to assist motorists. Visitors should select the parking lot that offers the most efficient exit to the roadway needed for their return trip.

For example, a motorist who wants to return to Merritt Island should park at Lot A or B. Or a guest returning to beachside communities should park in Lot B, C, D, E, or F. Guests who park in The Cove dining and entertainment district should expect longer delays.

The parking lot that guests choose to park their vehicle will dictate what road they will be allowed to use when exiting.

Upon arrival, motorists should plan where they will park their car and follow electronic signs to their desired lot.
