BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF WAYNE IVEY: The past six and a half years of my professional life has been without question, the most fulfilling time of my 39 year Law Enforcement Career. I know firsthand that there are many more challenges and accomplishments to be achieved in the coming years. I can personally tell you that as your Sheriff, your Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is up to the challenge, and with your support, we will continue to proudly serve and positively impact Brevard County. That is why I am asking for your continued support in seeking re-election as your Brevard County Sheriff.

WAYNE IVEY: I AM HONORED TO SERVE AS YOUR BREVARD COUNTY SHERIFF

The past six and a half years of my professional life have been without question, the most fulfilling time of my 39 year Law Enforcement Career.

As Sheriff of Brevard County, I have had the opportunity to work with the members of what I believe is one of the most professional and accomplished agencies in the country.

Additionally, I have had the opportunity to represent and interact with the most supportive citizens any Law Enforcement Agency could ever ask for!

Our agency is blessed to serve in a community where our citizens have partnered with us to truly make a difference in the historical low crime rate while working together to keep Brevard County a safe place to live, work, and raise a family.

As your Sheriff, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity to serve our citizens and communities, while also representing the 1,500 proud men and women of our agency.

During the past six and a half years our agency has achieved some amazing accomplishments by working closely with our citizens.

Of those, one of the most important and impressive is the fact that we have lowered the crime rate in Brevard County by over 29% from January of 2013 until December of 2018.

In addition, while our population continues to increase we had fewer reported crimes last year than any other time in the past 40 plus years.

There is no question that this accomplishment is a direct result of the partnership with our citizens, aggressive Crime Prevention efforts, innovative programs, and a consistent law enforcement mission that targets criminals instead of allowing criminals to target our citizens.

In addition to effectively lowering our crime rate, our agency has also taken on new roles in the community by assuming Law Enforcement and Seaport Security services at Port Canaveral, the County’s Animal Control Department to include both Animal Enforcement and the Animal Shelters.

Additionally, we were asked to assume District School Security for Brevard Public Schools, a vital role that has never been more important to keep our campuses and children safe.

The merger with Port Canaveral was a significant savings for the Port, and also strongly enhanced security services for the only open port concept and the second busiest passenger cruise terminal in the country.

In addition, our team’s effort at Animal Services combined with the support of our citizens and local animal rescues have taken what was once a failing Animal Control program and transformed it into a “No Kill” Animal Care Center that has a sustained Live Release Rate of over 92%.

With our School Security Program, we direct security for BPS and provide 30 School Resource Deputies for a number of BPS, Charter and Private schools.

Our leadership and oversight in the protection of our schools has played a major part in making sure that Brevard County has some of the safest schools in the country.

Other major accomplishments during our time in office include the implementation of the state’s only Chain Gang that puts inmates to work rather than sitting in their bunks on the taxpayer’s dime.

The inmates are used for everything from picking up trash on the side of the road to exercising dogs and cleaning kennels at our Animal Care Centers.

The Chain Gang and inmate work programs save the taxpayers over a hundred thousand dollars annually on various projects and also sends a strong message that jail is not the place to be, especially in Brevard County.

In addition to our Chain Gang initiative our agency created the “Brevard Attitude Modification” (B.A.M.) Program that gives children and teenagers an opportunity to see what happens when you make bad choices in life and what can happen when you make good choices.

Heralded by Judges and Prosecutors as a “great tool” to make a difference in a troubled child’s life, this dynamic program not only teaches juveniles about how tough jail is, but also teaches them how to succeed in life by preparing them for education opportunities, job interviews, life skills, and a career fair that points our youth in the right direction.

Our crime prevention efforts have also led to an amazing partnership with the University of Central Florida to implement crime prevention and victim advocacy in two areas that can deeply impact any community.

Through innovative research, our team created a first of its kind in the country Therapy Dog program to assist victims of crime, especially our children by helping them cope with the trauma associated with being the victim of a crime.

This incredible program additionally provides a Therapy Dog to agencies across the country to assist children and adult victims of crime. The program has been extremely successful, allowing UCF to study the effective results to help other agencies throughout the country.

Again, ideas created from our team that are helping our agency and others better serve citizens.

In addition to all of the Crime Prevention programs and efforts to protect our community, our agency understands the importance of giving back to our community by helping not-for-profit organizations that help those in need.

Since being elected Sheriff in 2013, I am very proud that your Sheriff’s Office has helped not-for-profits in Brevard County raise millions of dollars to operate and help those in need.

I strongly believe that “it takes a community to protect a community” and helping not-for-profits is just one more way the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office helps to keep Brevard County an awesome place to call home.

While I could go on and on about the amazing accomplishments of your Sheriff’s Office over the past six and half years by our team and our citizens, I know firsthand that there are many more challenges and accomplishments to be achieved in the coming years.

I can personally tell you that as your Sheriff, your Brevard County Sheriff’s Office is up to the challenge, and with your support, we will continue to proudly serve and positively impact Brevard County.

That is why I am asking for your continued support in seeking re-election as your Brevard County Sheriff.

I absolutely love this job and would love to continue to serve as your Sheriff so that we can continue to partner together to protect our community while also setting the bar high as one of the most professional agencies in the United States.

Thank you for your amazing support of our agency and for allowing me to continue to serve as your Sheriff!
