Eastern Florida State’s Levonte Johnson Lifts Men’s Soccer Team to Win in Double Overtime

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Freshman Levonte Johnson took a perfect cross from Abdoulaye Diop and put it in the back of the net to lift the No. 3 Eastern Florida State College men’s soccer team past No. 9 Daytona State College 1-0 in double overtime Friday night.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie after 100 minutes but 1:07 into the second overtime the Titans gathered up a ball that was cleared and Diop sent a long cross the Johnson timed perfectly, putting it past Daytona State goalkeeper for the game-winner.
Titans goalkeeper Nour Moaoui kept it scoreless early in the second half, making a diving stop on a penalty kick after a handball in the box.
It was the sixth goal of the season for Johnson and the first assist for Diop.
The win snaps a streak of three straight years that the Titans lost the season opener in the series vs. the Falcons and the Titans have won six of the 10 matchups in the past four seasons.
“Fantastic match and a great advertisement for NJCAA and NJCAA Region 8 soccer. We had to fight until the end against an incredibly tough and talented Daytona State College team,” Eastern Florida State College men’s soccer coach Oliver Twelvetrees said.
Eastern Florida State College improves to 5-1 overall and 1-0 in the Region 8 Conference. The Titans will travel to ASA Miami on Tuesday before hosting the Storm on October 1.
