BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – After a brilliant debut almost leading Florida Tech to a win in its first career start, Mike Diliello has been named the Gulf South Conference’s Freshman of the Week for Sept. 23.

The redshirt-freshman was impressive for the Panthers in their GSC opener at Delta State on Saturday. The Panthers fell to DSU 30-28 but it was Diliello’s play throughout that kept the Crimson & Gray in the game.

Diliello completed 17-of-29 passing for 309 yards and two touchdowns, his first career passing touchdowns. He had a number of explosive plays in the contest as well, throwing for completions of 32, 35, 45, 46 and 72 yards.

The Cooper City, Florida product also rushed for 20 yards and a touchdown, giving him fourth rushing scores in the first three games this season.

Diliello becomes the first Florida Tech player to win the Freshman of the Week award since Antwuan Haynes did it in 2015.

Fans can catch Diliello and the rest of the Panther Football team this Saturday, Sept. 28, as Tech opens its home schedule against GSC foe West Georgia at Panther Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

Saturday’s game is the annual Black Out Game and fans are encouraged to wear black and support the Panthers against the Wolves.
