The Brevard County Tax Collector’s Melbourne office has temporarily closed after ongoing HVAC problems made it unsafe to continue serving customers inside the facility.
BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA — The Brevard County Tax Collector’s Melbourne office has temporarily closed after ongoing HVAC problems made it unsafe to continue serving customers inside the facility.
The office, located at 1515 Sarno Road, typically serves more than 400 customers each day.
According to Brevard County Tax Collector Lisa Cullen, temporary cooling units have been unable to keep the building at a safe and comfortable temperature for both customers and employees.
“The last thing I want to do is close an office that serves more than 400 customers a day. The building’s HVAC system is broken, and the temporary units cannot cool the office to tolerable temperatures. The safety of our customers and staff comes first,” Cullen said. “We’re diligently working with Brevard County to resolve this promptly.”

To help reduce the impact on residents, the Tax Collector’s Office is assigning additional staff to its Merritt Island, Palm Bay, and Viera branches to accommodate the increased number of customers while the Melbourne location remains closed.
Officials also announced that anyone with an existing appointment at the Melbourne office will need to reschedule and make a new appointment at one of the other Brevard County Tax Collector locations.
The Tax Collector’s Office apologized for the inconvenience and said it is working closely with Brevard County officials to restore operations at the Melbourne branch as quickly as possible.
Customers are encouraged to plan ahead and expect longer wait times at the Merritt Island, Palm Bay, and Viera offices until the Melbourne location reopens.
