BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Cocoa Beach Police have arrested a Georgia man for an armed robbery to the Jersey Mike’s Subs, 5675 N. Atlantic Ave. in Cocoa Beach.

The armed suspect has been identified as 39-year-old Matthew A. Cannon from Georgia. Cannon was taken into custody Monday afternoon at around 3:30 p.m. for his alleged involvement in the armed robbery.

According to the investigation, Cocoa Beach Police responded to the sub shop regarding a suspect who entered the establishment, displayed a knife to the clerk, and passed a note implying he had a gun and demanded money from the register.

After the store clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of cash to the armed suspect, the perp fled the scene in an older Chevy pickup.

A short time later, Cocoa Beach Police made contact with Cannon and the Chevy pickup in question at a nearby hotel.

Further investigation led to Cannon’s arrest.

Cannon was charged with Armed Robbery and will be delivered to the Brevard County Jail, held on a No Bond status.

“Cannon also had an outstanding felony warrant out of Georgia. No one was harmed at the sub shop, and there is no safety concern in the community,” said a police spokesperson with Cocoa Beach Police Department.

The case remains an active and ongoing investigation.
