Florida Tech’s Reel Reads Event ‘Spooktacular Tales’ Will Examine Edgar Allan Poe Tonight At Evans Library

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Florida Tech’s School of Arts and Communication and Evans Library will keep the Halloween spirit going as they host Poe’s Spooktacular Tales from Page to Scream from 6:30-8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1 on the first floor of the library.
Part of the Reel Reads series on film and literature, the event is free and open to the public.
Faculty members Debbie Lelekis, Melissa Crofton and Angela Tenga will be leading the discussion – and encouraging others to join in.
This will not be a traditional film screening, but rather a space for discussion and analysis of key scenes from several film adaptations of Edgar Allan Poe’s most famous stories, including The Black Cat, The Cask of Amontillado, The Fall of the House of Usher, The Premature Burial, and The Masque of the Red Death.
The event will also feature the exploration of depictions of Poe in films including John Cusack’s The Raven (2012), on TV shows like Altered Carbon on Netflix in 2018 (where we see an artificial intelligence-version of Poe as the owner of the appropriately named Raven Hotel), and in Seth Grahame-Smith’s 2010 novel, Abraham Lincoln, Vampire Hunter.
Light refreshments will be offered.
