Former Brevard County Commissioner Andy Anderson Dies Suddenly at His Mexico Beach Home

MEXICO BEACH, FLORIDA – Former Brevard County Commissioner and Palm Bay Assistant City Manager Andy Anderson passed away suddenly on Friday night at his Mexico Beach home.

Anderson, who was in his 50s, moved to the Panhandle town last August where he was hired as the City Administrator.

According to the Mexico City website, he was responsible for the day-to-day operations, ensuring that the City is run efficiently and economically and advised the City Council when requested.

Mexico Beach Mayor Al Cathey told WMBB-TV that Anderson’s death was “a terrible loss not only for the family but also for the community.”

Mexico Beach city officials said that the cause of death was likely due to an allergic reaction, but the cause of death has yet to be confirmed.

Anderson started working for the city in late August and council members said he had accomplished a tremendous amount for the city in such little time.

Cathey told WMBB-TV that Anderson had recently received a physical a week prior stating he was in good health. He went on to say that in the short time he’d been at the City, Anderson made a difference.

“It’s hard to express in words how this makes us feel,” Cathey said to WMBB-TV.

After serving as a member of the Palm Bay City Council, Anderson was elected to the Brevard County Commission in 2008 and re-elected in 2012.

He was hired as the City of Palm Bay director of economic development in 2015 and served until his departure to Mexico Beach in August of this year. During this time he also acted as the Palm Bay assistant city manager.
