BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – In remembrance John Glenn, of one of America’s most beloved Astronauts and who died three years ago this month at age 95, we thought it appropriate to honor his memory.

Glenn first came to Brevard more than 60 years ago on May 18, 1959, when the newly selected original Mercury 7 astronauts gathered at Cape Canaveral to watch their first rocket launch.

Glenn was inducted into the U.S. Astronaut Hall of Fame in the inaugural class in 1990.

He was the first American to orbit the Earth as well as the oldest person to fly in space when, at age 77, he flew on Space Shuttle Discovery in 1998.
