Diane DeShong is a fifth-generation Floridian who has been painting for 40 years
BREVARD COUNTY • TITUSVILLE, FLORIDA – Diane DeShong Cannon is the July Spotlight Artist at the Downtown Art Gallery, located at 335 S. Washington Avenue, in historic downtown Titusville.
DeShong is a fifth-generation Floridian who has been painting for 40 years and excels in her free use of the watercolor medium.
She rarely sketches out her subjects, instead, she simply puts brush to paper in her unique, recognizable style.
DeShong finds inspiration in her garden, or her neighbor’s. Her favorite subjects are flowers, landscapes, and “skinny palms,” all done in a free, semi-abstract style filled with color and light.
Since retiring, DeShong has traveled extensively with her husband and those exotic locations sometimes show up in her paintings.
She stays busy working with the North Brevard Art League, where she is past-president and now workshops chairman and loves teaching and passing on the craft of watercolor painting.
Her work can be viewed Mondays and Thursdays through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Downtown Art Gallery.
