BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast announced a call for nominations for the Thomas E. Gamble Excellence in Education for Economic Development Impact award.
Dr. Thomas E. Gamble, past President of Brevard Community College (BCC), now known as Eastern Florida State College, devoted his career to serving undergraduates from all levels and walks of life, embracing the open-door philosophy of the comprehensive community college.
At BCC, he was instrumental in the development of the Aerospace Technology program, a National Center of Excellence of the National Science Foundation, a variety of curricular and technology enhancements, as well as significant facility enhancements at all five college campuses.
He also was a champion for the expansion of the partnership with the University of Central Florida in Brevard County, improving upper-division and graduate-level offerings.
Active in a broad spectrum of community support and educational efforts, Dr. Gamble expanded the college’s dual enrollment programs serving high school students.
This resulted in the largest number of dual enrollments in the state of Florida, further creating additional avenues for students in Brevard County to continue their education at the highest level.
In memory of this exceptional educational leader, the EDC created the Thomas E. Gamble Excellence in Education for Economic Development Impact Award. This year’s award will be presented at the EDC’s 2020 Annual Meeting on October 28, 2020.
The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast invites members of the community to submit nominations on behalf of an individual who has made long-standing, consistent, and highly valued contributions to further educational programs supporting a comprehensive talent pipeline for our existing industry.
The deadline to submit is Monday, August 31. Self-nominations are acceptable.
