Florida Tech Alumnus William “Randy” Muns Wins $50,000 Grand Prize at Chopper Dropper Fundraiser

BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA — Florida Tech alumnus and Board of Trustees member William “Randy” Muns won the $50,000 grand prize at Florida Tech’s recent Chopper Dropper fundraiser.

The 18th annual event involved dropping 2,000 numbered golf balls from a helicopter onto Andy Seminick-Les Hall Field at Florida Tech, with the ball that ended up closest to the golf flag implanted there winning the holder of that number the $50,000 grand prize.

There was also a $ 10,000-second prize and 15 $1,000 prizes, as well.

The money raised goes to Florida Tech athletics programs, which involve some 450 student-athletes.

Muns, who graduated from Florida Tech with a bachelor’s degree in business in 1978 and went on to earn his MBA in 1980, also won a $1,000 prize.

He purchased 120 tickets for this year’s Chopper Dropper.

The second place, $10,000 winner was Patrick Bell, also a Florida Tech alumnus.

The 14 other $1,000 winners include Florida Tech Trustees Ann Dunwoody and James Wong. Other winners were physicians Steve and David Badolato, who provide medical care at the Holzer Health Center on campus, John “LJ” Burr, an alumnus and longtime Florida Tech supporter who is one of the owners of Long Doggers, Meg O’Malley’s and Hemmingway’s Tavern, as well as Alana Brooks, Denita Marcum, Martin McAlwee, Peter Berard, Andrew Pursell, Joseph Radosky, Jennifer Tolen, Joseph Commorato, Gretchen Kelly and Ran Bi.
