Former Merritt Island Mustang, Current UCLA Bruin Lexy Denaburg Honored as Beach Volleyball All-American

Denaburg Honored as first-team 2021 All-American

BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – The American Volleyball Coaches Association and VolleyballMag.com have named former Merritt Island Mustang and current UCLA Bruin beach volleyball player Lexy Denaburg to their first-team 2021 All-American beach teams.
The American Volleyball Coaches Association 2021 selections were made by the AVCA Beach Volleyball All-America Committee: chairperson Beth Van Fleet (Georgia State), Andrew Fuller (Stanford), Hector Gutierrez (TCU), and Kristen Rohr (Grand Canyon).
VolleyballMag.com’s All-American voters included coaches Derek Olson (Cal), Rita Buck-Crockett (FIU), Kristina Hernandez (Stetson); and media members Holly McPeak (Pac-12 and ESPN), Placek (CollegeBVB.com) and Rob Espero (VolleyballMag.com and the Viral Volley Podcast).
Denaburg ended the season for UCLA with an overall record of 10-3 and partnered with Lindsey Sparks for the entire 2020 season going 9-3 on court two and 1-0 on court three.
The Bruins faced 11 ranked opponents in the 15 duals in the shortened season with Denaburg going 6-3 against ranked teams. Denaburg and Sparks also clinched two victories in dual matches on the year for the Bruins as Denaburg was 10-2 in two-set matches and 0-1 in three-set matches on the year.

Denaburg, a 2019 Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame inductee, was a four-year letter winner for indoor volleyball and soccer at Merritt Island High School and a member of the 2018 Merritt Island State Championship beach volleyball team in 2019.
She was named first-team AVCA High School Beach All-American in 2019 was an Under Armour indoor volleyball All-American in 2018 and Class 6A Florida Volleyball Dairy Farmer Player of the Year for 2018.
Denaburg was named first-team All-State three times (2016-18); four-year All-Conference and All-District in volleyball (2015-18); Space Coast Daily Volleyball Player of the Year for 2018; Space Coast Daily Female Athlete of the Year for 2019; and Florida Today Athlete of the Year for 2019
She was also a two-time state champion in soccer (2017, 2018) and a finalist for the Class 4A Soccer Player of the Year in 2018. Denaburg is the Merritt Island High career kill leader with 1,366.
Denaburg’s mother Connie was inducted into the Space Coast Sports Hall of Fame in 2018 and her brother Mason was a first-round draft pick of the Washington Nationals in the 2018 MLB Draft.
