WATCH: Cocoa Beach is very busy on Florida’s Space Coast. Today’s offshore powerboat races called “Thunder on Cocoa Beach” have attracted thousands of visitors and today’s weather is ideal. Many hotels were reporting 100% occupancy as the beaches of Florida’s Space Coast offer outside fun and open spaces.
BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA BEACH, FLORIDA – The annual Thunder on Cocoa Beach Superboat races are underway on Florida’s Space Coast and the beaches and hotels are packed for all the excitement.
The event featured four days and nights of parties, concerts and lots of racing action as the Space Coast Super Boat Grand Prix is one of the most popular attractions for the whole family in Central Florida.
The race draws some of the top race teams in the World to compete in various classes with the premier class reaching speeds over 175 mph.
The race is making its first turn near the Minutemen Causeway, with the second turn happening at the Cocoa Beach Pier.
The action starts and ends near Lori Wilson Park with the racing going on until 4 p.m.
The Official After Burner Party runs from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., with the Awards Presentation set for the Dry Pits by Cape Canaveral Tower at 7 p.m.
