BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE BEACH, FLORIDA – The Honorable William Frederick Lee, Jr. (Fred), 74, of Melbourne Beach, Florida, previously of Clarksville and Goodlettsville, Tennessee, teacher, coach, school counselor, attorney, adjunct professor, and judge, transitioned from this life on October 26, 2021.
He was born in Clarksville, Tennessee, and later taught chemistry in the same room in which he was born after the hospital was converted into Clarksville Academy.
He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Martha Rubel Lee and William Frederick Lee, and his dear sister Jean Ann Sullins. He is survived by his wife Dr. Jeri Proffitt Lee, his three children, Jennifer Christine Bennett, Angela Joy (Chad) Hunter, William Frederick (Becky) Lee, III, his stepdaughter, Dr. Rachel Elisabeth Butler (Virgil) Russell, 14 grandchildren, and his sister, Amanda (Doug) Crabtree.
A graduate of Stratford High School’s first graduating class, Austin Peay State University, Vanderbilt University’s Peabody College and Nashville School of Law, he retired from Metro Nashville Public Schools after 33 years of teaching and coaching, practiced law at Blackburn and McCune Law Firm, Nashville, and served as Adjunct Professor at Tennessee State University, and as Municipal Judge of Goodlettsville, Tennessee.
He lived life on his own terms, enjoyed family, golf, and following the Titans, the Cincinnati Reds, Vanderbilt and Austin Peay. He was well-loved and respected for his passion for coaching and teaching, acceptance of all, striking smile, easy laugh, candor, and witty comments (known as Fredisms).
Celebrations of life will be announced locally by his Melbourne Beach family and in Nashville by his Tennessee family. His ashes will be interned at Greenwood Cemetery in Clarksville, Tennessee.
