BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – Looking to add a meaningful new holiday tradition? Then bundle the kids in the car and head to The Nativity Experience.

A Journey Through Bethlehem at Suntree United Methodist Church on is set Saturday, December 11, from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. Dozens of volunteers will provide a live-action depiction of Bethlehem from 2,021 years ago.

Cars will wind their way through a series of lighted vignettes erected in the church parking lot at 7400 N. Wickham Road in Melbourne, where costumed actors will depict scenes from the biblical birthplace of Jesus. For audio narration, families can scan a QR code with their smartphones, or request a CD when entering the car line.

The 15-minute “journey” will conclude with a stop in front of the nativity scene, complete with live animals.

The Nativity Experience: A Journey Through Bethlehem is a free drive-through event, with donations accepted on behalf of Zoe Empowers, an organization that provides opportunities to vulnerable children in developing countries.

To facilitate traffic flow, vehicles will be asked to enter the Nativity Experience carline north of Wickham Road, from the southbound lane of Pinehurst Avenue in Suntree. (Suntree United Methodist Church image)

Tanner Smith, Director of Communications for Suntree United Methodist Church, believes many families will make the drive-through Nativity Experience: A Journey Through Bethlehem a treasured new tradition.

“For a second year, we are excited to offer a powerful way for families to experience the story of the birth of Christ,” said Smith.

“They will follow Mary and Joseph on their journey to Bethlehem, witness the gathered shepherds, see the star followed by the three Wise Men and wave to the ‘shopkeepers’ assembled in the marketplace — before concluding with a manger scene with live animals. It’s a meaningful 15 minutes.”

To facilitate traffic flow, vehicles will be asked to enter the Nativity Experience carline north of Wickham Road, from the southbound lane of Pinehurst Avenue in Suntree.
