FOT PIERCE, FLORIDA – The U.S. Navy Blue Angels will fly into Ft. Pierce Airport for a 2022 Vero Beach Air Show Winter Visit on Dec. 20. Due to construction at the Vero Beach Airport, the Blue Angels #7 and #8 will fly into the Ft. Pierce Airport for the visit, with arrival expected at 9 a.m.

The Vero Beach Air Show is back in 2022 with the U.S. Navy Blue Angels headlining the event April 30 through May 1. April 29 will be the first-ever night show with a limited number of tickets available.

The Blue Angels last performed in Indian River County during the 2018 Vero Beach Air Show. Since it has been a while, here’s a review of what you can expect to happen between now and the actual show.

During their visit on Dec. 20, Blue Angels #7 and #8 will familiarize themselves with the Vero Beach landscape. They will visit the hotel and gym facilities planned for their 2022 stay and will tour the areas where team activities will be staged.

Most important is a review of the 2022 aircraft parking plan as the team will have, by then, transitioned from the F/A-18 to the F/A-18 E/F Super Hornet jets.

■ On Wednesday, April 27, 2022, Blue Angel #7 and his Maintenance Crew Chief will arrive to perform orientation flights with a media representative and a carefully selected and deserving local citizen.

■ On Thursday, April 28, 2022, Fat Albert, the C-130-J aircraft containing the Maintenance Team and equipment will arrive followed by the arrival of the remaining six F/A-18 E/F Blue Angel aircraft a short time later.

A portion of the day will be spent ensuring that the “Sound of Freedom” is clearly heard in the skies above Vero Beach as the Blue Angels spend the afternoon practicing for the weekend.

■ Friday, April 29, 2022, will feature a full practice airshow of all performers.

There is no doubt that the Blue Angels are well-loved by Indian River County residents, Happily, the Blue Angels are equally enthusiastic about performing here.

The Vero Beach Air Show has been lauded by the Blue Angels during the annual International Council of Airshows in Las Vegas as the organization that provides the example of how an airshow should be run.

What high praise, indeed, considering that Vero Beach is the smallest venue at which The Blues perform.
