BREVARD COUNTY • MELBOURNE, FLORIDA – For the sixth year, the Great Southeast Flooring America College Scholarship Program gave away $1,000 awards to graduating seniors at Brevard Public Schools.

Once the students receive this year’s scholarships, the total awarded to date will be $61,000.

Graduating seniors from each of the 16 Brevard Public Schools high schools are eligible for the award if they plan to attend college or university next year and Flooring America will present the scholarships in April and May during end-of-school-year award ceremonies.

“We get a lot of enjoyment helping Brevard County students as they get ready for higher education,” said Nelson Green, owner of Great Southeast Flooring America.

“I get to meet these graduates every year and it’s always encouraging to see such outstanding young people preparing to take on a new challenge. It’s important to us that we help them along the way.”

To be eligible, a senior must complete an application, write a 500-word essay on how he or she will use the money and be recommended for the award by a teacher or guidance counselor.

All students must show a high degree of integrity, citizenship, achievement, sportsmanship and leadership.

“We are so thankful for the tremendous support for our students and their future endeavors through scholarship programs provided by local businesses like Flooring America,” said a spokesperson from Brevard Public Schools.

“They exemplify the heart of Brevard with their continued investment in the lives of children of our community.”
