Sporting Events to Look Forward to This Spring

By  //  February 24, 2022

As the clocks start to go forward and nights become gradually lighter, another winter is past us and sports fans can finally gear up for the start of spring. The football season is heating up and with crowds finally allowed to attend more regularly due to changes in coronavirus restrictions, some sense of normality looks to be back on the horizon.

There’s plenty of action taking place across a variety of sports this spring, and while the Premier League, boxing and tennis tend to dominate the headlines, we thought we’d take a look at some other sporting events that are worth keeping your eye on this spring. Read on, as we look at some sporting events to look forward to at the start of this spring.

Rugby – Six Nations

We’re really starting to get into the thick of things as far as the Six Nations is concerned. With the first break done, England still have a real chance of capturing a title for the second time in three years. While the hopes of a Grand Slam are off the cards, Eddie Jones’ side still have a real possibility of winning the whole thing, with Wales struggling for consistency due to a plethora of injuries and Ireland still having some tough fixtures ahead. England’s final game is against France on March 19th

Greyhound racing – Towcester Marathon

While greyhound racing might not draw the crowds it once did, there is still a small but dedicated audience that follow the sport, and an evening at the track can certainly be good fun.

With a lot of the action taking place in the Midlands these days, the Towcester Marathon serves as the spring’s big Category One race, with the best in the sport all competing and greyhound betting looking extremely tough to call. English Greyhound Derby winner Thorn Falcon is expected to be running, alongside top trainers like Mark Wallis and Patrick Janssens.

Snooker – The Tour Championship

It’s strange to think we haven’t seen a Tour Championship since 2019. North Wales is host to one of the biggest events on the snooker calendar at the end of March, with the small town of Llandudno running the tournament for five years before covid impeded.

Now though, it’s back and with Neil Robertson still the current holder, it will be interesting to see if anyone will come along and knock him off his perch, with the likes of Judd Trump, John Higgins, Mark Selby and Ronnie O’Sullivan, who was beaten in the most recent final, all expected to be present.

Horse racing – Cheltenham Festival

In terms of horse racing, there are few sheer spectacles more impressive than a packed out Prestbury Park for the Cheltenham Festival. Alongside the Grand National, Cheltenham’s four days of action-packed racing serve as some of the most important dates on the calendar, where the best jockeys and trainers compete in a variety of different races, culminating in the Gold Cup — the Festival’s showpiece race.

Whether a horse racing enthusiast or just a punter looking to win some quick money on their champion, a day at the tracks will be all the more enthralling this year as it is the first-time spectators have been present since 2020.
