BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Diana Adams, a small business owner, nonprofit leader and former Brevard teacher, has announced her candidacy for the West Melbourne City Council.

Adams, who has had a lifelong passion for dedication to her community, is currently attending the West Melbourne Citizen’s Leadership Academy.

“I’m running for a seat on the West Melbourne City Council because I have a passion for public service, a love of my community, and believe a fresh perspective on our city council would make a positive difference in West Melbourne’s future,” said Adams.

While serving as a teacher for Brevard Public Schools, Adams was honored as the Freedom 7 Elementary School Teacher of the Year and then earned a Zimmerman Excellence in Leadership Award from the school.

She then topped that by being recognized as Brevard’s Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year, going on to earn Florida’s Dr. Theron Trimble Elementary Social Studies Teacher of the Year honors that same year.

Adams became the Executive Director of Brevard Heart Foundation, as well as owns Rock Paper Simple, a local marketing company, with her husband.

Her various roles and love of volunteering have given her the opportunity to serve multiple local organizations, including Junior Achievement of the Space Coast, Candlelighters of Brevard, Keep Brevard Beautiful and Children’s Hunger Project.

The Brevard Heart Foundation recently tapped her to become their executive director. The 63-year-old nonprofit supports healthcare initiatives and provides scholarships to students seeking healthcare-related degrees in order to ensure quality healthcare for our county.

Adams is a 2021 graduate of the Leadership Brevard program and is currently earning her doctoral degree in Public Administration with a concentration in Public Sector Management as an investment in her future and the impact she hopes to make in her community.

“I believe local representatives should empower the voices of all the people, so I look forward to meeting and hearing from as many of our residents as possible,” said Adams.

The City of West Melbourne includes about 25,000 residents and operates under the Council/Manager form of government, which calls for the mayor and city council to serve as the board of directors for the city, with the city manager acting as the chief administrative officer.

The City Council sets policy guiding the City’s growth, development and future, and the City Manager implements Council-adopted policies.

The 2022 General Election is set for Nov. 8.
