BREVARD COUNTY • INDIALANTIC, FLORIDA – Vice president, board member, entrepreneur and Christian, Tanya Pruitt Herbert passed away Thursday, March 10, 2022. Tanya, 78, died at her home in Indialantic, Florida, of natural causes.

Dedicated to her family, friends, and her beloved Shelties, Tanya was as well known for her leadership roles in business and the community as she was for her beauty, sense of humor, fashion style, and her flair for decorating.

Born in Melbourne, Florida, December 1, 1943, Tanya spent her childhood and most of her life in Melbourne as a cheerleader, tennis player, golfer and all-American girl next door, whose popularity preceded her.

Tanya graduated from Melbourne High School and attended the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, where she not only attended college but got married and had her first child, John. Six years later, Tanya had her daughter, Marla. She adored both of them and taught them how to be confident, strong, maybe a little stubborn, and how to care for others.

Tanya loved to travel. Her adventures took her to Paris, Dubai, and the Panama Canal to name a few. In addition, one of her newfound joys was learning how to live her remaining years as a cowgirl, spending half the year at her house in Blowing Rock, NC, where you would either find her either sitting on her back deck with her Shelties or riding horses with her friends.

She also loved to entertain. If you haven’t been to one of her Christmas Eve parties, where Tanya dressed up, sang, and danced with friends and family, then you have missed out on one of her favorite pastimes.

Tanya was a proven business leader. She started her career in the family business, Pruitt Real Estate; relinquishing her role within the organization to devote herself to mastering the commercial/development side of real estate.

Returning to the Pruitt firm in 1987, Tanya was designated company vice president and director of operations for the Pruitt Commercial Group, where she successfully led the business for more than 20 years.

Even NASA recognized Tanya’s talent for commercial real estate when they requested that she develop a leasing program for their buildings to include contracts and pricing that she effectively managed.

No one was more strongly committed to the commercial welfare of Brevard than Tanya, where she played a significant role in her community. Inspiring women to take a leading role in business, Tanya was the first female director of the Bank of Brevard, the first independent banking institution in Brevard.

Tanya was also the chairman of the Florida Tech Ad Astra Society, an organization that supports the University’s continuing operations, scholarships, and other similar programs.

Among other civic activities, she was on the board of directors of Junior Achievement, board member of the Melbourne/Palm Bay Area Chamber of Commerce, board director of Tiger bay, board of directors of the Space Coast Marine Institute, a member of the Junior League of South Brevard, and Aid for the Arts member.

Tanya is survived by her daughter Marla (Vince) Reynoso, daughter-in-law Trena Moran, grandchildren, Torie and Jacob (Sierra) Moran, and her brothers, Lonnie Pruitt, and Michael (Kristi) Pruitt. Predeceased by her son, John Moran, her husband, Charles J. Herbert, and parents James H. and Mary Pruitt.

A memorial service for Tanya Pruitt will be held Tuesday, March 22 at 2 p.m. at Beach Funeral Home.

She loved flowers; daisies were her favorite.
