BREVARD COUNTY • COCOA, FLORIDA – Cocoa Police Officer Kuanza Henderson joined the department in December of 2021, successfully completed the field training and evaluation program and was deployed for solo patrol last week assigned to Delta Squad.

Henderson is originally from Miami and he graduated from the police academy at Indian River State College in March of 2010, Recruit Class LE 119.

He served with the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office from 2012 to 2018 and had the opportunity to engage in community-oriented policing working special assignments at sporting events and answering calls for service in some of the highest crime areas in the city.

Henderson later transitioned to the Duval County Courthouse where he worked as a certified police bailiff. There, he gained experience working with prosecutors, defense attorneys, private attorneys, and judges, seeing the other side of the criminal justice system.

Henderson has an associate degree in criminal justice technology and a second degree in digital cinematography. He has two sisters and had a fraternal twin brother, named Kwanza Henderson who passed away in November of 2020, just over a month after he lost his mom.

Officer Henderson is most proud of becoming the man his mother worked hard to raise him to become.

“My mother was my biggest inspiration in life. When she left this earth shortly before my twin brother, I was devastated and my world changed tremendously,” said Officer Henderson.

Officer Henderson’s words of wisdom: “Always put God first, and live your life with honor and integrity no matter who’s watching. Being a better person for yourself is much more beneficial than being a better person for someone else. Dream big, work hard, and pursue what you want to accomplish with a humble and fearless heart no matter what. It’s your journey.”

“We are happy to have Officer Henderson on our team! If you see him out and about, make sure you show him some love!” said Cocoa Police Department officials.
