Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey Selected to Lead Florida Department of Law Enforcement Transition Team

Sheriff Ivey will chair this team of 14 professionals from different disciplines across the state

Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey, above right with Gov. Ron DeSantis, has been selected to lead the newly appointed Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass’ transition team. Sheriff Ivey retired as the Resident Agent in Charge of FDLE’s Brevard/Volusia Field Office in 2011 after serving more than 20 years with the agency. His experience with FDLE, coupled with his time as sheriff, provides Sheriff Ivey a great understanding of the core mission of FDLE as well as insight into what local agencies need in partnership with the statewide agency to best protect our communities. TALLAHASSEE, FLORIDA – Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey has been selected to lead the newly appointed Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Mark Glass’ transition team.

Prior to his appointment as FDLE commissioner, Glass served as director of Florida Capitol Police, overseeing all safety and security efforts in the legislative and executive branches.

“I am honored to share with our community that newly appointed FDLE Commissioner Mark Glass has asked me to temporarily lead a transition team that will help shape the future of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement under the leadership of Commissioner Glass,” said Sheriff Ivey.

Over the course of the next several months, Sheriff Ivey’s team of law enforcement experts from various local, state and federal agencies will help create a seamless transition for Commissioner Glass while also helping to develop the strategy and mission for FDLE.

“As part of the transition, our team will meet at various intervals and locations to analyze and review previous strategies and best practices of the agency, allocated resources, budgets, agency structure, and current, as well as projected crime trends that will help shape the agency to best serve the citizens and partner law enforcement agencies of the great state of Florida,” said Sheriff Ivey.

“As many of you know, I retired as the Resident Agent in Charge of FDLE’s Brevard/Volusia Field Office in 2011 after serving more than 20 years with the agency. My experience with FDLE, coupled with my time as sheriff, provides me a great understanding of the core mission of FDLE as well as insight into what local agencies need in partnership with the statewide agency to best protect our communities.”

Sheriff Ivey said he is extremely grateful to Commissioner Glass for giving him the opportunity.

“Over the next several months, I will chair this team of 14 professionals from different disciplines across the state as we all work together to keep Florida the safest state in the country,” said Sheriff Ivey.
