BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Over the last few months, two local organizations have visited Brevard Public Schools secondary schools, educating young adults about things they may not learn from their average school curriculum.

The first group, Tied Together of the Space Coast, teaches young men how to tie a tie. More than that, they teach boys the importance of a positive self-image and self-worth.

Tied Together started in May 2014 as a small volunteer effort at Cambridge Elementary by a local realtor, Glen Outlaw. Since then, Outlaw has grown the organization to over 300 volunteers.

Over the years, Tied Together has taught over 16,000 young men how to tie a tie, shake hands, and, most importantly, how to “stand tall as an individual.”

While the guys are with the Tied Together volunteers, young ladies participate in Junior Achievement of the Space Coast’s GLOW program. GLOW stands for “Get It. Learn it. Own it. Want it.”

The assembly program hosts three female STEM professionals who share their stories and answer students’ questions about their career paths. JA states, “it’s more important than ever to inspire, encourage, and guide” young women as they make career decisions.

So far this school year, the two groups have visited Eau Gallie High School, Johnson Middle School, Merritt Island High School and Jefferson Middle School.
