Melbourne, FL Soccer Enthusiast Mike Reeves Gets His Hometown Global Attention During World Cup

QATAR – The United States Men’s Soccer team faced off against Iran in an elimination match in the 2022 World Cup hosted in Qatar on Tuesday afternoon, and the Space Coast Office of Tourism got a free promotion from Melbourne, Florida, resident and enthusiastic soccer fan Mike Reeves.

During the match, which had a global audience and high political drama, the Fox Sports cameras panned over to the crowd, and Reeves was seen holding a banner that read “MELBOURNE FL” after Christian Pulisic tallied the American’s only goal against the Iranian team in the 38th minute of the match.

Reeves is a lifelong soccer fan and a member of the Melbourne chapter of the American Outlaws club, a non-profit group dedicated to organizing support for the men’s, women’s, and youth U.S. soccer teams that have over 200 local chapters in cities around the world.

Team USA advanced after defeating Iran 1-0, and the Americans are set to face the Netherlands on Saturday at 9 a.m. local time.
