BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Intrepid golfers took advantage of the total absence of glare from the sun along with slow greens to set a Health First Golf Classic course record for fundraising this year at the Suntree Country Club.

When the skies cleared, the Health First Foundation raised about $438,000.

The four-person scramble is played by Golf Classic event sponsor teams, and this year’s tournament field included 224 golfers.

They hit one of two of the country club’s famed courses – the Classic and the Challenge.

Aging Services

Dr. Visa Srinivasan, Medical Director of Health First’s Aging Services, reminded those in the banquet hall that 100% of the funds go toward Aging Services, a division of Health First that includes the Memory Disorders Clinic, the Center for Family Caregivers, and other programs.

“For 20 years, we’ve been committed to improving the health and wellness of seniors and their caregivers in Brevard County,” Srinivasan said.

Clinical care, support groups, classes, creative workshops, and other services are available to members of our community “regardless of their medical, social, economic or financial situation,” she said.

These services are vital to the wellness of so many friends and neighbors, but it takes a monumental coordinated effort such as the Health First Golf Classic to raise the necessary funds and awareness.

“So thank you for believing in our work,” she told the audience. “At Health First, the future is well, and we are so grateful that you are a part of it.”

‘For Our Elderly and Caregivers’

The event was co-chaired again by Briggs and Dana Kilborne, joined by Health First Board Chair and Interim CEO Kent Smith.

“Thank you to our sponsors, golfers, and volunteers for another record-breaking tournament,” Dana Kilborne said.

“Its success is a testament to the importance our community places on providing vital services for our elderly population and critical caregivers. On behalf of the entire Health First Golf Classic Committee, thank you again, Brevard!”

“Health First has been here for more than 85 years, so you or someone you know has likely been touched by our outreach or cared for by us,” said Michael Seeley, President of the Health First Foundation.

“Word’s gotten out that our Golf Classic is a fun event, and we’re glad, but it’s entirely in service to Health First’s Aging Services, which touches so many in our community at a moment for many of us when the need is greatest.”

“We all want to age with independence and wellness, and we can, with access to great medical care.”
