BREVARD COUNTY, FLORIDA – Amidst the prevailing competition in talent attraction and retention, communities must battle for attention and recognition on a global stage. Effective community branding, once thought of as a luxury, is now essential to effective community development, while also attracting potential investors, visitors and residents.
Recognizing the importance of telling Brevard County’s unique story, the Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast embarked on a groundbreaking journey through Mission Space Coast, the first-ever unified branding initiative for the region.
Now in the final phase, the progress made with Mission Space Coast since its inception in 2022 is meritorious, poising it to set the community apart on this global stage.
“Mission Space Coast represents a milestone for Brevard County–an opportunity for us to tell the story of our region in a way that authentically showcases our distinct assets to a global audience,” stated President and CEO, EDC, Lynda Weatherman.
Mission Space Coast is a collaborative effort involving the EDC, the Space Coast Office of Tourism (SCOT), and EDC stakeholders. This partnership exemplifies our collective commitment to showcasing the region’s assets and unlocking its full potential.
By harnessing the strengths and contributions of these key partners, Mission Space Coast will emerge as a powerful and unified voice for Florida’s Space Coast. This seamless collaboration not only extends the reach and impact of the initiative but also nurtures a sense of ownership and pride among all stakeholders involved.
“It’s the perfect combination to bring the EDC and Office of Tourism together, because they’re two sides of the same coin,” said Peter Cranis, Executive Director of the Space Coast Office of Tourism.
“When people are considering relocating for work, they often visit the destination first and when they see our advertising, they’ll make that connection. Having a great experience here while on vacation can translate to making the Space Coast home.”
The goal of Mission Space Coast is to tell the story of Brevard County through one unified voice. It aims to create an ownable brand that people can be proud of, reflecting the unique characteristics and spirit of the community.
By developing a cohesive brand identity, Mission Space Coast seeks to provide a framework that businesses within Brevard County can embrace side-by-side with their own brand, whether they are municipalities or independent entities. This unified approach ensures that people looking from the outside in can effectively recognize the assets on Florida’s Space Coast and what the community stands for.
“Currently the Space Coast is a hidden gem and not known to most of the country,” stated Nancy Peltonen, President and CEO of The Greater Palm Bay Chamber of Commerce.
“The Mission Space Coast branding initiative hopes to rectify this with marketing that is recognized around the world and people immediately know where we are located.”
By uniting under a common brand, Brevard County can project a strong and consistent image to the world. This not only enhances recognition and awareness but also instills confidence in potential investors, businesses and visitors. The unified brand acts as a powerful tool for communication, allowing the region to articulate its values, assets and aspirations clearly.
Michael Ayers, President and CEO of the Melbourne Regional Chamber of Commerce notes that “Mission Space Coast is more than just a branding of our region; it is a powerful tool that will set our region apart and continue our surge in job creation, business opportunities and financial growth that will echo for generations to come.”
Moreover, the Mission Space Coast branding initiative serves as a unifying force within the community itself. It provides a shared sense of identity and purpose, fostering collaboration, pride and a collective commitment to the region’s success.
By aligning under one brand, businesses and organizations can amplify their impact and work together to create a thriving environment for innovation, economic growth and quality of life.
“A unified brand for Brevard County is not only a catalyst for economic growth and prosperity it also marks a significant milestone in our history,” said Titusville Area Chamber of Commerce President and CEO, Erin Akins.
“For the first time in Brevard County, we will have a cohesive brand that represents the collective essence and vision for our region and I am honored to be a part of this process.”
Through this unified branding initiative, Brevard County aims to create a brand that goes beyond logos and slogans. It is about telling a compelling story, one that reflects the region’s rich history and values as well as opportunities.
It is about capturing the essence of Florida’s Space Coast in a way that resonates with people and sparks a genuine connection across diverse demographics.
“A unified community brand fosters a sense of identity and purpose, attracting investment, tourism and skilled workforce,” stated Jimmy Lane, President and CEO of the Cocoa Beach Regional Chamber of Commerce.
“It creates a strong foundation for collaboration and growth, driving economic prosperity for the entire community.”
The EDC invites the community on this exciting journey as it enters the next phase of Mission Space Coast. In August, the EDC will be launching a photo contest where residents can showcase their favorite photos of the area.
The winning photo will be featured on a postcard and EDC social media channels, capturing the beauty and vibrancy of Florida’s Space Coast. This contest is an opportunity for everyone to participate in shaping the brand narrative while sharing their unique perspective of our remarkable region.
