Eastern Florida State College Women’s Volleyball Defeats Hillsborough in Four Sets

TAMPA, FLORIDA – The Eastern Florida State College women’s volleyball team defeated Hillsborough Community College in four sets Monday night in Tampa.
The Titans, who are No. 20 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll released on Monday, picked up the win, 25-16, 25-17, 23-25, 25-21 to improve to 3-5 in the Citrus Conference.
Eastern Florida State College jumped out to a quick 8-1 start with a couple of big blocks and kills from Paulina Dobrinova and Flavia Romanelli. They would lead throughout the set although Hillsborough did cut the lead to two at one point, but a Jordan kill and Sarah Henault ace got them back on a roll as they won the first set 25-16.
The second set was tight early on but Daphne Wibranowski had a kill to give the Titans a 13-12 edge and they would lead the rest of the way as Romanelli recorded a couple of kills late to push the lead to 22-17. After a timeout, the Titans would score the final three points to go up 2-0.
The third set saw the Titans take an early advantage, but Hillsborough came back to tie things 9-9 and took the lead with four straight points. Down 22-18, the Titans would roar back behind a could of Jordan kills. A Romanelli kill made it 23-24 but Hillsborough was able to pick up the win.
Eastern Florida State College jumped out to a big lead in the fourth set as Wibranowski recorded a block, a Jordan ace and another block made it 7-2. Hillsborough would tie the match 16-16 but the Titans would go up 21-17 and go on to post the win.
Eastern Florida State College was led by Jordan who finished with 16 kills and 10 digs, while Romanelli had 11 kills and Dobrinova finished with six kills.
The Titans will host Hillsborough Community College on Wednesday night at 6 p.m. at Titan Field House.
